Family Squabbles

The females of the house are prone to squabbling over the most trivial of matters. Egos get bruised fast and even get healed easily. A good old fashioned quarrel at the top of their voices gives the women a much needed vent for boredom and day to day frustrations. It may also be a good exercise for their vocal chords! Who better than your daughter/sister/mother/mother in law to bicker with? At our house my better half and the young one are constantly at each other's throats. Sometimes I am concerned about how the future might shape up in such a hostile environment.

The relationship of these two is based on mutual animosity. Both firmly feel that the other is just waiting for an opportunity to pounce or to point fingers. Accusations are also sometimes made that the 'other' person is just arguing for the sake of it. Both women will be tolerant, graceful and friendly with others of our tribe but when it comes to cooperating or discussing with each other, all knives are out!

This kind of complex, strange relationship can perhaps be found only in females. Males by and large keep to themselves, brood but seldom explode. They will confide in friends and sometimes even casual acquaintances about slights they have had to suffer or digest. Men can be indiscreet in these matters. By a corollary women should be better in handling conflicts. But sadly I do not endorse this savage way of yelling at each other and at times cursing at the top of their voices. Women may be finding it therapeutic as it frees their minds. The mind of a woman is far more complex than that of a male.

I am amazed to see the two cohabit in spite of such differences. A casual observer may be shocked at what goes on in our house. But hang on.... in most houses the situation is the same. The degree might vary.

Conversations with some of my friends reveal similar circumstances in their houses. A CA friend says that his wife and daughter argue throughout the day. A friend who is politically connected also aired a similar concern. A friend (female) expressed her anguish that she is just unable to have a dialogue with her daughter! So many similarities! Us males just need to sit back and relax. I act as the buffer in the house from time to time. Although I am mostly treated as a duffer :)
